项目描述: | SFDPW: Great Highway/Ocean Beach sand relocation - n coordination with the National Park Service (NPS), San Francisco Public Works (SFPW) performs annual sand management activities along the Great Highway, from Lincoln Way to Skyline Boulevard. Work involves the removal of wave and windblown sand from Great Highway and on and adjacent to the Noriega Seawall promenade and access path, and the relocation of the collected sand onto NPS jurisdictional lands at Ocean Beach. Project limits vary from year to year based on weather conditions, but the outside limits are the extent of Great Highway from Lincoln Way to Skyline Boulevard.
Ocean Beach pedestrian access points along Great Highway are cleared of sand as needed at the following intersections: Lincoln Way, Sloat Boulevard, and Noriega, Ortega, Pacheco, Quintara, Rivera, Santiago, Taraval, Ulloa, and Vicente Streets. The details of sand management at these locations are confirmed each year during on-site meetings between SFPW, NPS, construction contractor, and representatives from the Golden Gate Audubon Society. Work may proceed only during the absence of the western snowy plover, and NPS staff will flag native vegetation for protection prior to the work.
An ongoing Special Use Permit between SFPW and NPS stipulates that, if not graded onto Ocean Beach, excess sand placement will be done south of Sloat Boulevard to maintain beach access, address bluff erosion hot spots, and to reinforce sandbag areas immediately north of the Southwest Ocean Outfall (SWOO).
Work is typically performed within a two-week period, utilizing dozers, dump trucks, excavator, and hand shovels as needed. |
