  • What type of payments are accepted?

    Online we accept Visa, Mastercard, or E-check. Cash or check payments can be made in office if needed at 120 S. Florida Ave M-F 8am-5pm.

  • How to upload documents?

  • How can I add the qualifier and/or subcontractors?

    If the qualifier is registered with Volusia County, click on look up to add the qualifier, for subcontractors, a list from the general contractor showing the state license numbers and company name for the subs can be emailed.
  • How long is the permitting process?

    If all required documents are provide, typically 5-10 business days.
  • Why haven't I received a notice for the BTR renewal?

    We have been paperless since Feb. 2021, email notifications are sent through the online system.
  • How can I get a copy of the invoice and/or BTR?

    A copy can be found in the attachments of the record, It can be emailed upon request.
  • How can I update my contact information?

    Please send an email to building@deland.org and request the change.
  • What do I need for a BTR application?

    A copy of Articles of incorporation/fictitious name from sunbiz.org if the business name is other than your legal name, depending on business description, a copy of state license etc., if applicable.
  • What are the fees?

    Fees are based on the business description.
  • How do I get a garage sale permit?

    Apply through the citizen portal here(link to the GWIZ as if applicant clicked on Garage Sale Button).
  • How many days are allowed?

    Time limit of sales. Garage or carport sales must not last more than two consecutive eight-hour days and may not be conducted by any resident more than once every six months or by any nonprofit organization more than one every two months.

  • What is an Annual Fire Safety Permit?

    An Annual Fire Safety Permit is intended for the Fire Prevention Division to review and inspect, as well as assess fees, for new and existing businesses in which the Florida Fire Prevention Code requires safety inspections to be performed.

    The Annual Fire Safety Permit Inspection Fee is a fee assessed to offset the costs of fire safety inspections required by the Florida Fire Prevention Code. The hazard fees, or F Codes, are charged on specified hazards in businesses as allowed by the Florida Fire Prevention Code.
  • What do I do if I get an email to schedule an inspection?

    If you are opening a new business and receive an email to schedule an inspection, please go online and fill out the electronic inspection request form. If you are an existing business with an existing fire safety permit, you do not need to schedule an inspection. If an inspection is needed for an existing business, we will reach out to you during the inspection month we have assigned your business.   • My neighbors haven't mowed the grass in weeks and it is very overgrown. Can anything be done about this?

    Yes, City ordinances state grass and weeds over 12 inches high are declared to be a nuisance and must be cut. Code Compliance will post the property in violation and send the owner the same notice. Right of ways abutting properties must be maintained to same standards.

  • My neighbor has a huge tree that looks like it is going to fall on my property. Can you tell them to remove it?

    The City of Deland views trees that are either shared by neighbors or that appear to be an issue as a civil matter between both residences. We recommend that you send them a certified letter, asking for them to tend to the tree in question through the United States Postal Service. This will ensure you will have confirmation of the letter reaching the owner. You can locate their mailing address through the Volusia County Property Appraiser's website or by calling them at (386) 736-5901. We also suggest you keep a copy of the letter you send to them for your records.
  • What does improper parking mean?

    Improper parking is when the vehicle is not parked in an approved driveway, approved driveway expansion, and/or the side of the home behind the front face of the home or the rear of the home. If planning to permanently park on the side of your driveway you are going to want to look into how to put in an approved driveway expansion.

  • My neighbor is working on their house and I do not see a permit. How can I check for a permit?

  • Who's responsible if trash is dumped on my property?

    The property owner is responsible for removal of any trash left on their property vacant or occupied.
  • My neighbors installing a fence and it is encroaching on my property.

    If they don't have a permit the City can site them for work without a permit. If they have a permit it becomes a property line dispute that would be handled as a civil matter.
  • The septic tank in my backyard keeps overflowing, who do I call?
